As a rule while they don't get along exactly they are generally much more civil about it. But George Bush's administration is pushing the envelope on what his powers are and this polarizes the sides because some see him as our protector, others see him as a future emperor. If George Bush leaves and the next president (Democrat or Republican) scales back the powers Bush said belong to the president, it should ease things back to the way they were under pretty much all previous presidents (except for maybe Richard Nixon and Andrew Johnson, who was the president after Lincoln was shot).

This one's easy. Both parties are stupid. Both sides are acting un-American, and both sides are completely slaved to anyone with enough cash. As far as each party's followers are concerned, well, they must be totally blind to not see that both the right and the left are guilty of corruption, and that they have both taken such corruption to the extreme.
Period.
The only way this could possibly change: Americans wake up and realize that both major political parties are corrupt beyond belief, and that neither deserve our votes. Screw getting along, how about making this work properly?

I don't think they'll start a war or something, if that's what you mean, but no, they'll never walk hand in hand. Their views differenciate so much that some of them will never like their opposites. But I'll bet you anything there are Lefties and Righties who are best friends. SOmetimes political view doesn't matter.

Sure as soon as the lefties agree with my opinion....absolutely!
All joking aside, there are many issues that both sides do agree on, and that is where the divide will start to come together. For the most part, the issues where we will not agree, we will just have to agree to disagree.

Lefties and Rights are actually one and the same. Both are on the Left, even though one is closer to the Centre. But people can't even agree amongst themselves... so no.

We can only hope that we will find a common ground and work to better america and not hinder the progress of this country! We spend too much time blaming instead of doing what is best for this country.

Sadly, only tragedy and catastrophy will bring opposing sides together. These events will overshadow each sides pithy differences and force them to work together for a greater cause.

They will never agree as long as there is a choice. There are only a few situations where there is no choice. You have to remember that there were War Protesters even during WW2 believe it or not.

We were united at one time during the days of 9/11, then Bush "the uniter" helped us to find our rightful places.

I'm more liberal, but my fiance tends to lean more to the right most of the time. We get along just fine! Hopefully if we can do it then that means that there's hope for the future!
