First you have to download the CD that came with it onto your computer.

With my digital camera, you first put the USB into the computer. Then you hook it to the camera with it turned OFF. Then you turn on the camera after it is hooked up.

install the drivers from the cd that came with the camera. newer computers come with many popular digi cam drivers pre-installed but not all of them. if you don't have the cd go to the camera manufacturer's website and you should be able to search drivers by your camera model. if this doesn't work make sure your usb connection/cable isn't dead. also make sure the usb port has enough power for the camera. some devices require you to plug into the usb port on the computer (not on the keyboard). and make sure your camera is in 'send' or 'synch' mode. it's usually the same setting when you want to preview pics stored in the camera.

What make and model camera are you using? Be sure to try to turn the camera power on when connecting to the computer. Also, click on My Computer and check for another hard drive that is labeled something like (Removable Disk (E:))

I don't know all the details obviously. I use my camera with 2 different computers. The newer computer downloads from the computer, easy. The older computer I have to download from the camera (functions).

Of course both of them have the programs installed.

If it doesn't come with software, you may check and see if it is plug n' play or if you have it turned off on your computer. Make sure your port you plug it to is being recognized also. Maybe plug something you know it recognizes in that same port to make sure it is working. Otherwise go to your control panel and click on camera's and add it in there.

The a520 wouldn't have the "Mass storage" function, so regrettably you're out of success. one thanks to take care of that is to take the memory card out of the digital camera and use a card reader. Cheers Roger
