North Korea's recent missile test was not exactly a success. Their long-range missile failed about 40 seconds after launch and, had it been aimed at the United States, would never have even been a threat. Not exactly menacing.
The U.S. is concerned about the testing, and has backed a Japanese-authored call for sanctions at the United Nations. China and Russia are the major blocks to such sanctions thus far, and an international stand against North Korea is really what the U.S. is hoping for as an outcome.
Will current events escalate to a full-scale war? Unlikely, but possible. The U.S. has too many troops in too many places now, and North Korea, for all its show of power, is probably not stupid enough to start firing missiles at the U.S.

North Korea is a country with a leader (Jong IL) that is desperate for both attention and money. They have little resources of there own and must rely on big communist brother China for much assistance.
It appears they do NOT currently have the capability to send a missile to the US despite what some on the FAR FAR Right are saying. The long range , 3 stage missile they launched failed 40 seconds after take off.
No one knows the full intention of Jong IL. He is communist, reportedly crazy and no friend of the US or Western world. He is capable of sending a missile short range and has nuclear warheads. This is of concern not only to Japan, but should be to us...as he could sell the arms (both in desperation, and for profit) to countries closer to us that wish us harm, to the Middle East and other enemies, terrorists that we are fighting.
China has not put enough pressure on N. Korea to stop testing and eventually they will succeed in acquiring or building an ICBM capable of hitting the US...whether it be 5, 10 or 20 years down the road. Will he use it...?? Don't know....he may just want the ultimate bargaining chip to make himself rich and famous..or he could be crazy enough to start assured destruction (on himself)...and inflict great damage to us.
We must create a proper defense (anti missile) against terrorists and nuts who do not value life as we do. With Russia, at least they didn't have a death wish...who knows with some of these people. Few are confident our current defense would work in a crisis.

Let them try. They just THINK they are bad. Wait until they come up against the real bad boys of the United States military. We have already placed a ship in the ocean near Japan to shoot down any foolish attempts made by North Korea. If that idiot dictator of theirs wants to play he had better realize he's not in the puppy department any more, he'll have to play with the big boys and we don't fool around.

As much as they might like to, they wouldn't dare just yet. They have materials for maybe a hundred nukes, but as their latest missile tests prove, they can barely get them off the pads. For now all we can do is contain and constrain them through diplomatic fronts while we let Taiwan and Japan go nuclear. That should sufficiently scare the s**t out of them and, incidentally give the commie goons in China a reason to sweat themselves!

The missiles that they are currently "testing" can possibly reach Hawai'i and Alaska. The last test firing was aborted but the trajectory was calculated to have it land somewhere near Hawai'i. As a local boy from Hawai'i all I can say is that North Korea sucks a**!!!

Not yet. So far they can't even complete a test launch of a missile big enough to hit the US. Considering the unstable personalities of both President Bush and Kim Jong-il, any outcome is possible. Duck and cover!!!

No, atleast not yet. They can not get there missiles off the ground yet hahaha. Rest assured we just parked a Missile Destroyer battleship in the area, so next time they try to fire a long range missile at the US, we will shoot it down. And then, we will bomb the **** out of them!

no one knows yet. Some people think that N. korea is just flexing their muscles or just trying to show that they have power. others are worried that a nuclear attack will happen. i don't believe we will get hit with any missiles. Bush has set up several defense systems across the pacific. Just watch the news (CNN or FOX) and they will fill you in.

The North Koreans have the missiles, no doubt about it. The one they tested went into Hawaiian waters and it is believed that they have missiles that can reach as far as Colorado.
