this is actually a common misconception about the universe. space-time itself seems to have originated in the big bang. the universe seems to be something like the two-dimensional surface of a sphere, except that it is four-dimensional. nothing exists, not even space-time, "outside" the universe. to quote a dead writer, "there's no there, there".

What your asking is not really possible. It's as if there is this huge box and the known universe has taken up only so much of this box and there is something on the other side.

In the latest theories there is truly nothing on the other side of the box, and I don't mean empty space, but not even space itself. In order for us to be able to picture it we have to imagine that it is more donut shaped. If you go to the end, you have found the beginning. Imagine being inside a donut and looking for a beginning or an end, it simply doesn't exist.

As the universe expands it is making the universe as it goes. making the donut bigger and bigger, but never finding a end as it cannot exist.

When they talk about the expansion of universe, they mean the separation between galaxies grows and not that the space itself grows although the absolute vacuum seems to have a structure which so far is little known

Ok, if you've been through elementary school, you should know that the universe is infinite (or so they believe).
