ok people tell me all the time that you can put a lit cigarette out in a cup of gas, or that they can put it out in a 5 gallon gas can....after they tell me this, bet them 5 dollars that it will explode.....needless to say they never take the bet....has anyone done this before?? if so what were the weather conditions and did it explode?

It may work, if you are lucky and quick. It takes a few quick moments fo gas to ignite and you could probably put the flame out before then. But why chance it??

my guess is the people who told you this are either suicidal or on drugs. If you even try putting a cigarrete next to a small amount of lethal a gaseous sustance whether in liquid or vapour form you wont get pleasant results. Even if the can seems empty it most likely isnt because gas will linger in the can for years. Even a small amount of gas can cause a disaster. Are you looking to kill yourself? Crazy?Wierd? All of the above I suggest.

This is a stupid thing to bet on. I hope you are not planning to test this out. Call your local fire department and ask an expert what would happen. Why dont you find something useful to do?

yes it is true. it is the vapors that ignite not the liquid. i have done this several times as a demonstration, however i would never recomend that anyone try it. it is very dangerous & cotastrophies can and will happen

Have never tried it BUT...sense gas IS flammable, I suppose I would never take the chance. DOH !

The fumes are whats flammible, But I still wouldn't try it.
