Einstein's famous formula E=mc^2 illustrates the equivalence between matter and energy. Matter can be destroyed to release energy. With enough energy, you could also create some matter.

7 yrs ago in 1999 a new science was approved by the "Science Community." It is called "Plasma Physics." Anthony Perot of the Los Alimitos Lab is a premier scientist in this field which is at least 3 decades in study. This is the 4th state of matter and is little taught in school or in astronomy. In the May issue of "Sky", an article on the Sun mentions plasma and electricity only once. Is the state of the Sun solid, gas or liquid? Some want a fision furnance powering the Sun-rediculous!! They? also want a fusion furnance inside the core of the Earth-when will it explode?
Anthony says all matter is plasma at different states of energy-and that includes us. To answer your question needs no magical type God nor a meaningless Mother Nature. Keep up by surfing with the wave of Science.

Like Jon R. mentioned, matter and energy are, in some senses, the same. You can create energy out of matter, and matter out of energy.
On a somewhat different topic, matter is in fact created spontaneously. At any given point in time and space, an infinite number of particles, called virtual particles, are popping in and out of existance. Its hard to notice here on Earth, but this can be observed in a vacuum, whether an artificial vacuum, or natural one (space). Scientists can actually measure how much force these particles exert, in other words, how much energy the vacuum posseses. Some people think that the universe itself is just another of these virtual particles; it popped into existance with the big bang.
Anyway, that leaves another question- is it possible for a true vacuum to exist?

Well actually this law only works for simple reactions. Lab tests have shown that fusion reactions and experiments with small quantities of atoms have demonstrated that miniscule amounts of matter can be destroyed (or created). So it is theorized that in deep space, reactions occur naturally that generate and destroy matter.
(May I note that the law conservation of mass is a scientific theory, with a logical and tested basis, and that questions like these should not be used or debated religiously and ideologically. Science is science and religion is religion- when the two mix, nothing good comes of it... so if you are able to keep yourself from complete hypocracy, do not use science to prove religious beliefs or ideology to infer scientific laws.

Sorry but energy is neither a solid or liquid or even a gas but a force

Matter can also be converted to energy, and vice versa.
It was originally from a large amount of energy that all matter was created. Some call this power God, and some vehmently deny it.

Matter is being created, somehow I heard it was atom by atom in space, not sure how the universe works but it definitely has a creative order to it.

I hope I do not get off topic on this broad reaching topic, but please bear with me. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
To try to grasp this subject, the Law of Conservation of Matter must state: Matter cannot be created or destroyed under ordinary physical processes (emphasis on the last phrase). This law does not apply to nuclear fission or fusion. Matter is converted to energy (i.e. matter is used up) in Einstein's formula E=MC (squared). The sun actually is only .7% efficient in converting mass to energy. (Only matter/antimatter conversions are 100% efficient in using Einstein's formula).
Additionally, matter is destroyed at the center of black holes a where Einstein theorized a singularity existed. Any matter that comes in contact with this singularity ceases to exist. Thus, the Law of Conservation of Matter is not constrained by nuclear processes.
This does not answer your question, however, as destruction of matter does not explain how it came to exist. It is now an accepted fact in the scientific community that mankind lives in a finite universe (i.e. it had a beginning). This fact leads to questions similar to yours. Not only does one question how matter came to exist, but also where energy came from; it is also an enigma where the laws that operate on the universe came from.
Now let us look into theory. The naturalistic way of thinking attempts to answer these fundamental questions using the Big Bang hypothesis. Reportedly, the universe had nothing, not even time or space, or matter before the big bang. Modern textbook writers inform us that from this state of nothingness the universe began in a gigantic explosion. The absurdity of this idea is quite evident. Awkward attempts have been made at explaining away cause of the Big Bang. One possible hypothesis says that two universes in different dimensions are continually colliding over hundreds of billions of years and mutually rejuvenate each other! This explanation is even more ridiculous than the problem! (Don’t worry if you don’t understand this...it is a really weird theory.) Yet, there are not many other options to consider.
If the Big Bang did not create matter out of nothing, than the only other option is that of a Supreme Being, one option many scientists are not willing to consider (even thought the naturalistic worldview has fundamental flaws, assuming that the material world is all their is; for a logical article on this subject read http://www.str.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=6023 )
Just because the conclusions of science have religious implications, the truth should not be neglected (an interesting article on this subject at http://www.str.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=6032).
Thus, despite the incredible difficulties presented by believing that matter created itself rather than Somebody creating it, many scientists continue to believe in the god of random chance rather than acknowledge the Creator God of the Bible.
To review, matter can be destroyed under unusual circumstances, but how it came into existence remains an enigma for those who rule out the possibility of a Supreme Being, though obscure theories may be presented. For those who earnestly see the origin and the purpose of matter, it is very apparent. Roman’s 1:20 states, “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
Thank God that “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord..” (Romans3:23). Ephesians 2:8-9 also says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.” We were created to be God’s friend, and He made matter so that we could have a physical existence, and as previously noted, it is only through Jesus that we can be redeemed.
In conclusion, the existence of matter and human beings is a unique phenomenon. Yet, the world was made to be lived in, just as it was said by Isaiah the prophet,
ISA 45:18 For this is what the LORD says--
he who created the heavens,
he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth,
he founded it;
he did not create it to be empty,
but formed it to be inhabited--
he says:
"I am the LORD,
and there is no other.”

Nobody knows!
But maybe all matter is actually a form of energy, when the Big Bang happened (don't ask me how) alot of energy was released, some of which became matter.
Well, that's my guess.
