Pat Benatar
Prior to breaking into R & R in the early 80's, she was an opera singer.
1991, True Love (big band jazz) sound proved
that her range and talent far surpassed all others!
Personally, I like Stevie Nicks more, but she can't shatter glass like Pat Benatar can.
"Sure, at 52 years of age, this opera-trained singer can’t hit some of the high notes like she used to, but she compensates wonderfully with slight alterations which put a new spin on the old favorites (like the new take on the chorus of ”We Live for Love”). She still possesses an inhuman vocal range so unique it can beautifully work its way through a sweet ballad, while also possessing the ability to belt out a rocker with an unparalleled ferocity."

Mariah Carey
She was the best selling female artist of the 90s... actually still is, lol but only rivalled by Beyonce, Madonna, etc.
Vocal Ability: she's got an opera-trained vocalist for a mom. Her mom's also her vocal coach.
Her latest album, "The Emancipation of Mimi" has hits such as, shake it off, say something, it's like that, etc which puts a total of 17 Number 1 Hits for her so far placing her behind other greats as Elvis Presley & The Beatles.

The world's best-selling music artists cannot be listed officially, as there is no organization that has recorded global music sales in the manner that the RIAA does in the United States. The leader is probably Alla Pugacheva or Madonna globally. See the chart.

As much as I hate to admit it, the answer is quite simply Madonna. Her true talent lies in her ability to reinvent herself over and over, not giving her audience a chance to get bored. She has been a major influence for nearly 25 years and her impact will be felt long after she's gone.

(and I'm not a fan)
