Just a point of clarification. There was never a team called the Chicago Black Sox. The White Sox of 1919 are referred to as the Black Sox because 8 of the players took bribes to throw the World Series. Those players were banned from baseball, not the entire team. The Red Sox started out as the Boston Pilgrims until 1902 or 1903, so the White Sox were probably first.

Don't forget the infamous Chicago BLACK Sox. Banned from the league for throwing games for the mob in the early years of pro ball. 8 players were tried for the 1919 World Series fiasco and the team was banned in 1921.
