I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 and just bought a WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adapter. Will this give me the internet everywhere? My main concern is will it work when I go places far away. i.e. camping and outdoors a lot.

You have to be in range of a Wireless Hotspot, Wireless Router, or wireless Access point. Range is typically 300ft. If you would like internet access on your laptop everywhere you go, visit verizonwireless.com and you can purchase a broadband expansion card and service plan. You will have Verizon broadband internet on your laptop anywhere and never have to worry about being in range of a router, etc.

In the United States, the FCC regulates all transmissions and limits these to a rather short distance, nothing more than about a city block or so.

Some cell phone companies offer cards for your laptop that will use your cell phone's internet capability to browse.

Your adapter that you have will only pickup "hotspots" places like starbucks and home wireless networks. it will not give you access like a wireless broadband service(sprint, verizon, etc.) will.
good luck
