X-FILES question.?

i have been watching the whole series of x-files since my hubby came home from iraq with the dvd set(all 9 seasons, plus the special features disc). last night i finally finsihed the last episode, and i was talking to my husband about it. i mentioned to him that the "smoking man" was mulder's father, thus making jefferey spender mulder's half brother. i came up with this conclusion because we know that the "smoking man" is spender's father, because he had an affair with his mother. also, we know that the "smoking man" had an affair with mulder's mother...so therefore wouldn't he be his father? also, when mulder was infected with that brain disease in season 7(i believe) he had a hallicination in which the "smoking man" said he was his father...
someone PLEASE explain to me about the relationships in the x-files. it is really bugging me!

p.s. i'll probably have some more questions in the future about the show.

Yes the "smoking man" is Mulder's father. That is one of the main reasons the "smoking man" didn't have Mulder killed, although Mulder came close on more than one occasion. The "smoking man" never had the gutts to tell Mulder he was his father. That was later discovered. Mulder's mother kept that info away from Mulder for years. Thinking it would protect him.

I have all 9 seasons too. I'll have to watch, its been awhile, but I do Know it was revealed that smoking man was Mulder's dad. Jeffrey & Mulder, knew they were half brothers and then it was clear to Mulder why Samantha had to be sacrificied when each guy had to give up one child of their own for insurance when they were working with the alien hybrid program. For smoking man it was his wife they took for the experiments, rather than his son, remember?
