Depends on your interests BUT in my opinion, Italy is by far your best choice. Everyone should visit Italy at least once. I lived there for 4 years and traveled many other places in Europe and the far east, nothing compares to Italy. The culture and people are wonderful! The food is excellent! The history is unbelievable, and the landscape is fantastic, from the beautiful Italian Riviera to the hills of Tuscany, to the rugged mountains of the Alps. Italy will not disappoint you! You say you have a month, use the train system. Try to see Rome, Pisa (Italian Riveria), Tuscany and Venice and any other areas ABOVE Rome. Skip Naples unless you want to visit Pompeii, I got robbed there LOL. Like I said, Italy is by far a place where everyone should visit at least once.

I would also have to say that Italy is your best bet. Anytime someone who doesn't have a lot of travel experience asks me where they should go, I always say Italy. Because, honestly, whoever you may be, you will find something that appeals to you in Italy.
Art...history...fashion ...food...beaches...cute guys/girls. Italy provides. It is also pretty easy to get around in Italy. The trains are convenient and economical. You will be to find accommodations and restaurant choices no matter what your budget.
The other great thing about Italy is that it's regions are very diverse, so that if you explore the country top to bottom you will have a feeling like you've visited several distinct places.
If you do decide to go there see if you can get a kilometric rail pass from your travel agent. I had one of these the first time I went there and it was great. I've heard that you can only buy it outside of the country though...so see if you can pick one up before you leave.
Enjoy your travels!

Having been to most, i would recommend France - beautiful country, amazing food, and lots of culture. Plus it's centrally located, and easy to take the TGV (high speed train) or Air France to almost anywhere in Europe on the cheap (if you're under 25 and you depart from France, you're fare is reduced by more than half on Air France).
The Scandanavian countries are too expensive and although beautiful, don't have as much to offer. The same could be said for Switzerland. UK is too easy.
Spain would be a good 2nd choice, then maybe Germany.

Spain. I'm Spanish, and I go every 2 years or so. If you go, go down south east, Specifically look for Denia. It is the prettiest place ever. It's hot, the water is warm, oh wow. Northern Spain is beautiful too and very traditional. I don't know how to explain it since I've been there so many times, but every is so much more alive and happy. It's so easy to make friends, everyones always laughing, bright colors everywhere, party late, awsome beaches...
Spain man, you gotta go to spain :D
Oh yeah, I forgot the mention the ridiculously hot guys.
Literally, here, maybe 3 out 10 guys I may see are hot.
Spain- 9 out 10. I'm not joking.

Well, although I teach Spanish and love Spain, I have to say Italy. The amount of culture is absolutely amazing. How can you compare the Sistine Chapel with other cathedrals? How can other statues compare with Venus di Milo or David? I spent a short week in Italy and could have been there for years without seeing everything...Oh yeah, if you choose Italy, make sure you visit Pompeii. It's awesome!!

Don't over analyse, be spontaneous and just pick one and go for it. Take all the surprises life can offer, I did, and my first surprise was Tashkent - no regrets, and my second mystery destination is going to be Kampala.
