...without emotion? How would society be different if logic were the prevalent internal guidance for all of our actions?

Be specific.

Without emotion, this would be a much more organized, civilized, well run world, because emotions and passion usually account for the greater portion of our decisions, right or wrong. Imagine politicians running our government without emotion...each decision made with logic. Everyone would always agree because logic rules everything. To me, it would be Utopia. To many others it would be death from boredom. No suprises, no excitement, no thrills. I could live with that to have chaos, crime and uncertainty removed from our lives.

Well, if we were all just computers, then we would have no motivation and we wouldn't do anything unless someone programmed us to. Is there any purely logical reason for doing anything? Logic is a language use to assist us in answering questions, not a means for determining which questions are worth answering. If you're thinking of "Mr. Spock" in Star Trek, his actions were more socialist than logical in basis. He thought in terms of the "good of the many, rather than the few". Calling this "logical" is not semantically accurate. It's just a particular economic philosophy, no more logical than any other.

Logic is inseparable from emotion. Logic is very slippery and arbitrary, so someone posing as unemotional can sneak in some personal desire whenever there is a logical opening for it, probably not even being aware of his deception. So a logical world would be full of power freaks capable of covering up their desires with well-rehearsed double talk and a "that's just common sense; we can't do anything about it" pose.

NOW that is a concept. I personally wouldn't want to live there. It is emotion that keeps the sick and deformed people. It is emotion that gives welfare programs. It is emotion and drive that causes us to create. There would be no need for frivilous art, no competition to become better. Lets face it those olympic people do it for fame and glory and the drive of an EMOTION to be the best. I couldn't stand my job without my humor. Laughter keeps me alive. That emotion is something I just couldn't live without. Looking into the sweet innocent eyes of my baby granddaughter. I wouldn't trade that. I guess no emotion would be hell. Maybe that is hell.

Society would flourish if everyone were logical. But if no one were emotional, that is different than being logical. Life would be...harmonious with logical decisions being made. It would also be boring, because none of us would enjoy it.
