Yes. Denying the holocaust and downplaying what happened is like saying that September 11th never happened. Yes I know there are competing theories on that. Basic facts remain with Sept 11th - two planes flew into the buildings and they collapsed. The whole world saw it on television. No one can deny the facts. The implications and whether or not it happened the way that it did... yes - those are debatable. But back to topic - millions of Jews and other people of non-Aryan backgrounds were taken to concentration camps and enslaved for years and or killed. People who deny that are not only delusional but ignorant. I'm not saying that they should be imprisoned for life or anything... but actively denying the holocaust is the same thing as acknowledging that the Nazis were doing nothing wrong.

Yes, and they should also be maimed, because anyone who denies the Holocaust is just WRONG. If there was no Holocaust, then where did all my relatives go? Not on vaction, that's for sure! And what about "Night" or the Nuremberg trials, huh? That's what I thought! I respect Freedom of Speech, but this is just downright WRONG. Read the facts of history, people! Go to the Holocaust museums! If that doesn't do it, then you should try to be less myopic! Thanks!

I don't believe so. One of the beauties of free speech (beyond the freedom itself) is that it can bring out that which festers in the shadows.

The holocaust happened. I believe this because I have read many books on the subject, seen documents referring to the logistics of the "final solution" and had the opportunity to visit the remains of camps in Poland and Germany. However, I have never met a survivor, nor been privy to direct observation of the acts themselves. So, I have a strong faith that it happened.

Let those that deny the butchers of the 20th century speak their mind - just never falter in your response. Never forget.

Well imprisoning someone for denying that people were imprisoned for their beliefs does prove the point that such an arbitratry thing is possible and repeatable.

In this country (USA) NO, in other coutries, especially Germany, it does happen. Personally I think it is foolish to try to legislate history like that as most people will just laugh at someone who is obviously trying to rewrite the past for their own gain. Anyone who is deluded enough to try to convince the world that something of that magnitude didn't happen deserves to be laughed at. I include those folks who say we never sent a man to the moon, the flat earth crowd, and especially the people who are now saying 9/11 was a US government plot.

No, I don't think so. They should have the freedom to say what they believe. At the same time the case for the truth of history must be made against those that deny it.

yes....it happened in austria i think, when a man denied the holocaust happened, saying it was a jewish conspiracy....he was jailed....there is freedom of speech and then there is stupidity, you can't go telling people that there parents and grandparents didn't really get gassed, that it was all a big lie....unfortunately, people in the US think it is OK to say what you want and are protected by free speech, when they should just keep their mouths shut....or just thank a soldier instead of breeding hate and discontempt.

In Germany it is a crime. Yes in Germany. No in the rest of the world where it is not a crime. However, one should be bit ch-slapped for being stupid enough to deny the murder of over 10,000,000 people by one evil regime.

No. But people should be imprisoned for allowing genocide to happen and not doing anything about it.
