There's an inherent problem in the question. "America" can be taken to mean both "the American public" or "the American government"... and while one is supposed to represent the other, they are not one and the same.
I think that most Americans are really interested in world peace. They want our soldiers to come home safely, they don't understand the war in Iraq, and for the most part, they are peace-loving people. This is supported by the decline in Bush's popularity (reaching lows around 33% approval) as the war has dragged on, incurring increases losses on both sides in addition to what now appears to be travesties of justice on the part of the American government (Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, Haditha, a solider raping a civilian and murdering the family, a mass execution of Shiites in one of their mosques, etc.)... and the government still offers no timetable for the withdrawal of troops.
Is the American public really interested in world peace? Of course it's impossible to categorize an entire country in a single swipe, but by and large, I'd say yes.
Is the American government interested in world peace? I tend to doubt that, at least in terms of the current administration. As much as it's denied and passed off as the ridiculous oft-repeated cry of the ignorant liberal, it often really does come down to oil and money... not peace. Hopefully when Bush's reign ends, things will change and we'll have an American government we can stand behind again.

It's amazing how mankind refuses to accept the truth that was revealed, literally, thousands of years ago.
World Peace - not gonna happen... not possible... not probable... not even 'in the works'. Peace on Earth will only be established during the sovereign reign of Yeshua Ben Yosef.
Keep trying to disprove the accuracy of Scripture... I can only imagine the knots on the heads that keep banging against the brick wall.
The Humanist is always looking for answers.... even when the answers are already there.
Think about everything that's been proven to be Wrong throughout human history... Now, no one finds it odd that the Scriptures have yet to be refuted? I mean, c'mon!, 2K+ yrs and NOBODY has any legitimate challenges?! What does that tell you?

Of course we're interested in peace. Just not peace at any cost as some of our more mutton-headed pacifists would like. Peace is an ideal but so is freedom and we must insist on both. If there's a group out there that works against our freedom or any other value or ideal of our people and government then our pursuit of peace can be put aside long enough to beat these enemies into submission or extinction, which ever comes first.

Yes ...and no.
America seems to be interested in how to gain economically from the entire world. Usually this means that a peace full country is more profitable for trade than one at war, but not always. As I see it America is interested in economic profit over peace, and toys of war make someone a nice profit.

No, the US is constantly at war with countries/groups which it feels challenge its interests. The main focus of American foreign policy is to keep new powers from rising and challenging its interests, as outlined in a policy paper by Paul Wolfowitz in 1992.
Because the US expends so much of its foreign policy and military expenses on maintaining this domination, it has earned the hatred of many countries outside the US, who view it as a liar and hypocrite.
Domestically, the US media, which is owned by only six corporations, daily blasts messages to Americans about how the US stands for freedom and democracy, and casting anyone who opposes the US as fanatics and terrorists.
The US intelligence analyst Chalmers Johnson has written extensively about this issue, and how it has warped US interests and created "blowback" such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Sadly, America as a government consists of a very large group of very wealthy people. It is in their best interest to aquire greater and greater sums of money by means of manipulating the global social and political systems. War is profitable to those who supply the instruments of destruction, which in turn is profitable to the powers in America. World peace would be the greatest thing that could happen for the American people, but it is a poor investment for the American government.

yes America is interested in peace. Unfortunately, there are others who are not interested in peace. There are Terrorist that will pose a threat to peace until they are stopped. then there is north Korea who I think is trying to provoke a war. until there is no terrorist and no threats against us then we cannot have peace. Our President has nothing to do with it as some have stated in there answers to this question. you have to look at the situations in the world with an open mind then answer the question

No. I'm not saying the terrorists are peaceful; they're far from it, but I honestly think Americans are a belligerent people by nature.
Reasons:
*their glorification of the military and police
*the love of violent films
*their compelling need to have to own guns; they always feel defensive
Even if terrorism ends and the rest of the world embraces U.S. style capitalism, they wil still look for a reason to fight.

americas idea of peace is where they are the king and every body else decedes to them, the general public innocently believes that their country stands for world peace but the american govt plays a very deceptive game with their own people as well as the world. one does not have to look further than events which have scarred iraq forever
