Socrates didn't write. Plato wrote "The Republic" certainly and other works as well. I just can't recall their names.

Socrates. Plato was his student and wrote down many of the things that Socrates discussed/believed.

Socrates never wrote his work down because he was too busy doing an Ozzy Osbourne impression, i.e. corrupting the young. He only became famous to us through his student, Plato, who wrote a lot of his life and teachings down.

An easier way to remember this is to draw parallels with Samuel Johnson (the dictionary fella) and James Boswell (his biographer), although Sammy Johnson was famous in his own right.... but, what we know of of Johnson's life is from Boswell's writings.

It was Socrates, Plato was his student and and uses him in his dialogues however it is difficult to distinguish which were Socrates' ideas and which were actually Plato's.
