Below are the 10 reasons that I can think of:

1) It establishes a routine. People generally like routines and fear change.
2) There has to be something they do like about the job. (Location, pay, co-workers, type of work).
3) If they quit the job, there is no guarantee that they will find better work.
4) It is better than being umemployed. Our society frowns upon people who do not have a job or are on welfare
5) They have responsibilities (family to support, mortgage, car, loan payments, etc.)
6) It takes too much hardship and effort to get a new job. Finding a job is literally a full-time job in and of itself.
7) The new job or their dream career or starting their own business requires additional training and a lot of monetary investment. People don't necessarily have the kind of time or money to pay for such a venture.
8) Often office jobs are safe and secure. Maybe not that you can't get fired/laid off, but at least your life is not in danger (like say, a fisherman's life or a firefighters is).
9) Theoretically, once the nightmare of working hours is over, the rest of the time is yours to enjoy. (Spend time with family, personal care, etc.)
10) Many people live in the hope that things will get better and they will either advance in the company or get better work elsewhere. It's sort of like paying your dues to go up in the world.

people are afraid to leave the job they hate bcuz they won't know when the next paycheck is coming. we're all told to work hard no matter what but working for something you hate is pointless. these people get lost in the bills and mortgages and child support scene that most don't have a choice.

1 - because it pays the bills
2 - it is always easier to deal with the "known" (the job you hate) than the "unknown" (what if I hate another job more?)
