Light waves do not travel in a medium like sound and water waves. They are the interaction of electric and magnetic fields as described by Maxwell's equations. These equations show that a time-varying magnetic field creates an electric field, and conversely, a time-varying electric field creates a magnetic field. The equations can be solved to derive the case in which the electric fields and magnetic fields vary in such a way that each creates the other in a self-sustaining interaction. When this is done, the result is an equation of a travelling wave that moves at the speed of 1/sqrt(e0*m0) in free space. e0 and m0 are electrical properties of space called permitivity and permeability. it turns out that the speed of light in a vacuum is exactly that value. This result was the convincing proof that light was electromagnetic waves.

An electromagnetic wave isn't like a sound wave or an ocean wave where it needs some sort of medium to travel through. The EM wave represents something: an electron, a photon, etc. These objects can also be thought of as particles, which have no trouble at all moving through empty space.

That is a great question. Wish I could answer it but thought it was worthy of a response. I was pondering the subject myself. They recently discovered a superheated atmosphere between here and the moon. The current school of thought is that it is caused by the layer of energy is created as an after effect of the magnetosphere and the solar wind. As people don't often think of dark matter as matter, it is still subject to laws similar to all atmospheres. There is gravity, but it is coming from different directions.

Apparently magnetism can be used to create a pocket in space. It is as if our planet has a shield around it. This electromagnetic field is caused by the rapid rotation of ore type minerals. Metals, liquid or solid, when in rapid movenemt especially in centrificul conditions create magnetism. It is hard to see but when we consider that we are spinning on a ball of iron and radiactive elements to contribute to this it makes sense.
I think the cause for mass extinctions has been the planet readjusting the magnetic poles due to centrifugal displacement of liquid magnetically condusive elements below the drillable service.

Now, factor in the fact that we have been drilling oil to the tune of 40,000 square miles a year and not filling that space. Simple physics could justify that the liquid multen magnetized material is filing places it shouldn't be, therefore throwing our center of gravity off. Imagine a soccer ball or Golf ball. Inside the ball is a plastic. In the center is jelly. Lets say we drilled little holes and then sucked out little sections then we spin the ball.
The jelly would fill the spaces and make the ball spin lopsided, because the center of gravity is no longer stable.

Not to say that we are the cause of this phenomenon, but rather an accelerant. In the flatlands of Montana I have seen the geological records dating back billions of years. This is in Sheshome National Park, in the region where the dinosaurs are plucked from the ground. Even a laymen like myself can see that the minerals go different dirrections in rather analytical measures. An explanation for this may be altered magnetic fields.

If suddenly the concetration of attractionable gravitational materials is on a different point of the planet it may re-align itself. Animals rely on magnetism to migrate. A change in the poles would be fatal for a slow moving beast, while a bird would simply migrate to the new warm or cold location, semi-aquatic having the best chance of survival. I would venture a guess that semi-aquatic birds are the oldest air breathing animals on the planet and have survived many mass extinctions. Them and bugs, the land crustacean.

Anyway, a polarity switch is coming. The increase in volcanic activity on the south pacific and the Burmuda triangle are what I think to be to likely location for the migration of our planets polarity.

I wonder if the magnetosphere weakens, increases, or ceases altogether when this happens. We need to do more research into the magnetism of our planet to understand global climate changes.

All electromagnetic waves (light, X-Ray, radio waves, etc.) propagate in vacuum at the speed of light (c).
It was thought that a medium was required for that and that it filled the void. It was called Ether. But experiments done at the end of XIX century proved it was not the case.

Electro-magnet spectrum includes light, it uses photons,
X-rays, gamma rays, your stove element when hot, even your body produces electro-magnetic Waves ( thermal cameras detect this).
They all have different wave length, radio waves (like TV or FM have very very low energy, and long wave lengths,) heat and visible light (low energy, & medium wavelength) gamma, x-rays rays ( extremely high energy, very very short wave length),
They are still photons that can travel though space

Since Albert Einstein has shown that space/time is curved, according to mass/energy present in the space/time, how do we know that energy doesn't travel through space via ripples in the space/time itself, such that space IS the medium, but that in the same way we don't notice curves in the space due to gravity, we won't notice ripples in space as well.

electromagnetic waves, like light waves, "propogate" in vacuum

why would they not?

sound waves are vibrations of air, so of course they need air

electo-magnetic waves are propogated energies

would a bullet, or a spaceship move through vacuum?

As per Quantum theory, they have dual property, sometimes they behave like wave, sometimes as particle. this is true of light and other EMwaves who have also some properties of particle.so they can travel through space .

cs it doesn't need medium to propagate.it flows the energy as it's own,and so it can flow the energy without any medium.
