Use regular white toothpaste, (doesn't matter if its whitening or not) with a toothbrush, gently scrubbing the surface of the marker for 45 seconds then let it stand for one minute. Come back to it with a damp cloth and wipe your marker stain away, it's amazing!

There are several cleaners available that will not damage the wood. But you could try a bit of olive oil first. Hold the rag soaked in it on the stain for a few seconds to allow the oil to soak in, then wipe. If that doesn't get it, try linseed oil the same way.
The cleaners I refered to; advertised just what you need, but I can't recall the name.

It sounds mad, but if you have non-permanent marker in the same colour and go over it with that, it will wipe off then with the non-permanent marker.
