A difficult question, especially if someone lacks personal experience. I can but base on overheard opinions...

But, basing on what I see everyday where I do live, plus what I've seen visiting other countries, I'd say we, Europeans, are pretty open. Hugging and kissing in public won't rather turn anyone's head. On the other hand, discussing sex topics in public isn't acceptable (especially in a mixed company). However, when you are with your friends of the same sex, pretty everything goes...

If you're asking with the intention of dating an European, I'd advise you to assume a bit out-fashioned way. Old-styled etiquette, the right pace of events, those things.
Also, behave yourself (no offense meant, I mean the impression), and make it clear you expect the same. If he can't stand to this, he isn't worth your time anyway.

I'm an American and I live in Italy. I have some Italian friends who are single and they date, and I don't really see a difference between them and us!
I have noticed that people are actually a lot more open about sex and public affection over here. Don't get me wrong, they are going at it in the middle of the street, but there are times that I feel like I'm intruding!
Honestly, my Italian girlfriends, married and unmarried, really don't differ that much from my American girlfriends. We all worry about the same stuff, we all like to shop, have coffee, and dread putting on a few extra pounds!
I know that it's not uncommon for Italian men to have affairs on their wives. Not all of them do, but this is a pretty common thing in their culture. I heard that before I moved here, and I've had my Italian girlfriends tell me that since I have moved here. But the funny thing is, the married couples all seem happy! Go figure!
I have been to other European countries, but only for short vacations, so I can't really tell you how they differ in dating from the US. To me, they seem to be like Americans when it comes to dating and marriage....With the exception on touching and kissing a lot more out in public!!!

It would be impossible to generalize between American and European cultures because of all the different countries involved in Europe, and all the different regions and nationalities in the U.S. Aren't British women different from Italian and from Russian women? Aren't Americans from the South different from Californians and Alaskans? Aren't American Mormons in Utah different from American Wiccans in Vermont? Aren't Moroccan immigrants in Paris different from Turkish immigrants in Germany, even though they're both European?

Bottom line: Culture is a very subjective thing is this day and age and you can't come up with a definitive list of differences. IMPOSSIBLE!

THEY ARE NOT DIFFERENT they are just more Conservative
they like etiquette
and respect to the family and each other.you will find very small amount of little girls and boys playing on yahoo asking stupid sex and masturbation questions
they have much more self respect
and if they do what they do ,that is done in privacy ,nice and quiet,no need for all the world to know about that
they like to have there private liefs
and i think that is very right, and decent
except Italy and France
