What platform (linux, windoze, MAC)? For what purpose (LAN file sharing, WAN web page/email, LAN printer sharing)?

I have experience in all three platforms for a wide range of uses. Give me a bit more information...

It depends what you want to do.

If it only means to be connected to another computer, then you just check if both machines have a network card.

If you run Windows XP, it's indeed pretty easy with the Network Wizard. (Start>Control Panel> Network Connections> Select Create a new connection.

If you have the network cable hooked up to both machines, and Windows XP is running, the wizard will help you to find the right settings.

A router is the easiest way, be it wired or wireless.
