Be very very careful when buying a turtle. They cost a lot. Plus most pet stores do not properly care for their turtles so you may be buying a sick turtle.

If you want a turtle go here to www.redearslider.com to see what all a turtle needs etc etc.

My turtle has cost me thousands of dollars already and I haven't even had him for a year. Just be prepared to spend that kind of money to have the proper setup for your turtle and to keep that setup going.

I hate questions like this. Any reptile takes tons of proper care, and are not meant for the average person to "have fun with." Most states have laws on types and sizes of turtles and tortoise you can keep. Do you want freshwater or land tortoises? Here are two links to read before you go out and buy any turtle. You can't just get one and stick it in an aquarium without proper care. It will die a slow death if not taken care of. Be prepared to spend the time and money.

They're sold in just about any pet store... But you can't really play with them... It stresses them out and they DON'T like it... You'd have a better chance with a tortoise or box turtle, they don't generally LIKE being "played" with, but most will tolerate it better than an aquatic species. They (aquatic and terrestrial) can be a lot of fun, I've got 2 aquatic turtles, but they're mainly just to look at (one of mine is out for blood any time I have to pick him up... the other isn't too bad but he'd still rather be left alone). You also need to make sure you are ready to care for them properly. Aquatic turtles are MESSY and need strong (and potentially expensive) filters, and need proper lighting, a varied diet, and a lot of space (some of those little baby turtles can get to be the size of dinner plates!). Not trying to talk you out of getting a turtle, they can be great pets, but you need to do your research and make sure that a turtle is really the pet for you.

I'll tell you after you have done all the research, know how to properly take care of it, have the proper setup for it's first 10 years, enough money in your bank account to buy all the food, housing, proper UVB lighting, supplements, & health care & vet visits it will require. And permission from your parents.

Let me know when you think you are ready - there will be a test!

I would like to implore that you adopt from a shelter - you would be surprised what kind of animals people give up. Give a turtle from your local shelter a wonderful home. Check out petfinder.com - this will find all the homeless turtles in your area. Good luck!

ok questioning about a turtle. nicely i like them accurate this second I have a musk turtle purple ear turtle and snapping turtle. very last year I had 4 for a spell I stuck in a grimy pond kept them and that they had shell rot even as cured I relocated them to a extra acceptable domicile pond. I allow you to already know the way i save mine although i'm positive people element what i'd not in any respect do this. My pal says i thoroughly cultivate them and cope with them extra acceptable than him lol. I have 2 huge plastic bins ones a 16 quart not positive the different and that i fill them with water in back backyard I have a floaty element in it i have been given from petco. So interior the mornings I enable them swim. and then once they calm i feed them. I attempt spinach and worms and sandwich meat etc.. Then when I feed them. and on account that I feed them on a daily basis i do not provide them lots in basic terms adequate that they offer the effect of being ok and sense slightly heavy. . Then at mid day or later i regulate the water. Then at evening I have sheets in there aquarium and they move slowly lower than them and sleep all evening. this can provide shell time to dry and they could sunlight them selves lower than mild in the adventure that they need. Now I do believe they favor an section to stroll round. exercising is taken under consideration necessary and swimming should not be adaquet i don't believe. So provide them lots walk round room. My Snapping turtle become in simple terms about useless when I were given him from previous proprietor. excess of fed and become white as a ghost. shell become all white tan that's going to be black. and massive gash in tail close to the bottom. so that is my toddler. that is totally tender and that i enable him sleep with me when I take a snooze. he's doing a lot extra acceptable right down to ideal weight and all yet that what occurs in case you do not care on your turtle accurate. in the adventure that they have got a nicely rounded food regimen and many sunlight you may want to not favor the supplementations particular meals etc all of us insists on. i do not use them nor ever have. I in simple terms provide each and every thing they favor in cooked and sparkling vegetables. save tank sparkling as achievable. yet once you've a straight forward sparkling field for them to swim for the time of day and a cage the position they could conceal and dry out at evening they're superb and also you do not or shouldn't have wellbeing themes. examine all you could and also you would have your turtle for the subsequent 100 and fifty years lol authentic tale dave

I got mine at the mall. They were $2 each for hatchlings. But don't buy the "turtle bowls", which is just cruel. You can also get them at PetsMart or Petco, but they are more expensive and don't usually have that many.
