Tar is composed of the smoke solids which come from the tobacco. Did you know there are thousands of chemicals in tobacco? One of those chemicals is Urea. Urea is a chemical identical to urine, and is added by the tobacco companies to the tobacco. They found that it gives the tobacco a "toasty" taste when smoked. So, smokers are basically inhaling pee. Yumm!

The Tobacco contains tar, amongst other things. Cigarette papers contain Salt Peter, which is a poison and also a component in gunpowder! It's used to help the paper burn evenly.
Nice, eh!?

Yes,tobacco has tar in it,paper has chemicals from processing it.Most all over the counter cigarettes have 464 added chemicals,to enhance taste and the burn factor. Those are the chemicals that actually cause the cancers, like lacquer to make the cigarette burn and not go out.If you have to smoke, try American Spirit, all natural no chemicals.I've had no more sinus infections for over 3 yrs now. But,if you can you should try and quit.I have lung disease now from nasty jobs and smoking nasty cigarettes. They didn't have natural cigarettes when I started smoking.

Cigarette paper does not contain tar. Some woodwind players use folded cigarette paper to cushion their lip from their teeth so it doesn't cut their inner lip.
