Breathe out through your nose very slightly whenever it's in the water. Takes a little practice, but soon you'll be automatically keeping "positive air pressure" in your nose any time water threatens to enter.

There are plastic clips which go over your nostrils. They are held on my a strap (elastic like a rubber band) which goes around your whole head. Synchronized swimmers use them. They are at sporting goods stores.
The other thing to do is tach yourself not to inhale while underwater. If you slowly exhale with your mounth closed the air will keep the water from coming in.
