I am a contractor in the DC metro area. The answer is, it depends on what you want. For appliances? Lowes. For ceramic tile? Home Depot. For treated lumber? Lowes. They don't all carry the exact same brands, but there are more Home Depots in my area, and travel time is a factor. However, my first choice would be Lowes. I spend too much time and money in both of them. Menards is not in my area, but I have been in a couple of their stores, but I am sure it still depends.

I like Lowes because if you need a truck to transport your items. They will rent you one for 20 dollars. Then there is Home depot which is good if you need to rent a tool. I like them both. As for Menards don't have one here in philly I don't think. And as for the Lowes where you are at I would check with them about If they do the truck rental.

We don't have Menards in SoCal, but my vote goes to Lowes. I sold all of my Depot stock before the stockholder meeting fiasco because I'm so disgusted with their lack of customer service. Lowes appeals to women, while Depot caters to the contractor. Lowes constantly sends me discount cupons, gift cards and other offers, and Depot could care less if they get my business. Lowes has better, healthier plants. The Lowes stores are cleaner, brighter nicer to shop in as well.
Plus, if you are buying a lot of stuff, having it delievered, all you have to do is give them a list of the item numbers, they will ring it up at the customer service desk, they shop the store, load it on pallets and bring it right to your home when you want them to. No hassle shopping! Now that's service.

'BOTH are good. Sometimes Lowes has products that are cheaper than Home Depot. Its best to call and compare prices. They both claim they will lower their prices to equal their competitors prices. I thought Lowe's had less staff but it really depends on what time and day of the week you go. In my town they are right across the highway from each other.
