So long as there are handicapped that are unable to work unemployment can't be obsolete. Additionally, there are those that feel entitled to be supported by you and I...for those I say LEARN SOMETHING...OBTAIN A SKILL and utilize it to make a living. Peace and Good Will be with you!

welfare and unemployment are completely diffrent things. Unemployment is something that you pay for, yourself, out of every check you make.
if you mean making unemployment, as in the fact that people have no jobs, I dont think that will ever happen. Reducing it is the only thing that can be done. Why? because a lot of people are lazy, or handicapped, or unskilled, etc.... so they not only cant get a job, but they are also unable to perform one.

Everyone should be employed as best suits their interests and abilities. We should acknowledge the unpaid work that people do, especially mothers, who may have the most important (yet unappreciated) job in the world.
It seems that the stystem is set up too much on having "a job" - a 9-5 thing that you go to every day. Instead of paying people to stare at a computer screen pretending to do work, they should go out onto the terrace and tend to the grapevines, or tomatoes, or whatever is growing out there.
I think that we should not abandon the agrarian farming life, but bring it with us in a small way as we progress into the era of technology and information. All people should grow vegetables, trees, and raise animals. It is not a difficult thing to do.

In theory, the labor market is like any market, supply and demand. The key variable is cost of employment. If there are more jobs than labor, salary will go up. If there are more labor than jobs, salary will go down.
However, due to labor laws and regulations, labor market is not as elastic or dynamic. From the employer perspective, there is min. wage law. There are high costs of benefits, etc. From the employee perspective, no one is willing to take a pay cut when times are bad.

You can't...you will always have a segment of any society that will feel they shouldn't have to work, don't want to work, who will expect "society" at large to take care of them...
Thats why we have 3rd, 4th and even 5th generation welfare families...
