We will never reach 10GHz with current technology. We have already reached the "GHz" limit so to speak in traditional processors (not counting overclocking which has yet to reach 10GHz). That's why we are seeing dual core and quad core processors coming out and software will be written to take advantage of multiple cores. We will need new technology like carbon nano-tubes, optical processors or something to push past the limits of current technology. For now, our primitive silicon based processors will have to do.

If you were to aggregate processing power of multiple cores to a total of 10Ghz in a single "cpu" then I would strongly consider adding a cooking rack and using it instead of your microwave. The EM radiation coming off your board will be severe.
We've reached the point where any one job is easily handled by a single CPU. Now the challenge is to provide multiple paths through the work so multiple CPUs can attack the problems. Pretty soon, we'll have hundreds of processors all working as a seamless machine.

It has been said that when 10ghz computer are around they will begin to use fibre optics onboard.
The world however is going towards multiprocessors with applications threaded for multiprocessors.

At that point, a gigantic solar flair will cause a huge power spike on the grid and fry all power generation facilities, consumer electronics, and every other electrical device. Everyone will have to start back at square one with an abacus.
