Why do so many people hate the French?

Question

I am Italian, and of course I want Italy to win tomorrow!!!

But I can't understand why so many people hate the French. Not only their team, but the nation in general.
I've been to France several times, and I can tell you it's a charming country. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities ever. France has good wine, good cheese, and its sophisticated cuisine is one of the most appreciated worldwide along with the Italian. They don't eat just frogs or snails. Granted, the French sometimes do sound a little snobbish and they do pronounce foreign names their own way, but they have good reasons for being proud of their country. They have a great cultural heritage -- novelists, poets, philosophers, painters, sculptors, architects. Modern art was born in France with the Impressionists. They were the first country to be a republic while all surrounding countries were still monarchies. Not all of the French vote for LePen or are racist. So, why do you people hate them?

I've been to France as well, and only noticed that the Parisians were a bit rude, and that was their police system, not the civilians at all. But one thing that causes hate is discrimination and stereotyping, so please don't ask why "do you people hate them?" I don't hate them, the French don't hate themselves, I'm sure 99% of the world eithe likes or is indifferent about them, but there's always the rebellious 1% that voices their beliefs more loudly than the rest.

Maybe the question is why do the French hate us. They think we are loud, rude, fat and wasteful. I have traveled to Paris as well. Twice we were told to geyt out of a taxi once the driver heard our American accent. We were humble and quiet too. It was a very uncomfortable situation. There were more instances. We had intented to stay in Paris 3 days but left after 24 hours. Just couldn't handle the rejection. The rest of France was nice. I'd love to hear from some French person and learn about their point of view.

Are you aware of anybody but the Americans hating the French? It reflects badly on you and only shows poor taste if you don't appreciate France and all things French. Not only does France have all you cite but an impressive record for apologizing to their colonies and standing up for justice and human rights worldwide. The Americans hate them, because of the French recent opposition to the war on Iraq (not in Iraq, as American media like to call it). Some Americans even hate the French for as far back as the French refusing to let Americans fly in their airspace zone to go bomb Libya. You know what? Those Americans who hate the French are too vulgar to matter one way or the other. They cite strikes and sparse showering as good reasons France is terrible. Let them stay in the USA standing in line, obese and stuffing their faces in their polyester colorful "comfortable" clothing, waiting to ride loud roller-coasters, while the French take their monthly vacation lounging in what is heaven on earth. Les bons temps roulent et la joie de vivre are in France. Stress is in America, even as it deludes itself in thinking it has it good.

Well, like u say, in some (or most??) cases the France might be snobbish.. But still I love Zidane. Gosh, hope they win tomorrow!!

hey, dude, I'm an Italian-American and I think that French are arrogant and stupid. They didn't support us when we wanted to kick some arab asss in the war because they are pusies... Americans hate the shhit out of them : "FIRST IRAQ, THEN CHIRAC".

Italy is a strong country, they know that Americans should lead the world...
