How far in the future? Good question. Although I think we are seeing an ebb in Chinese influence, for the time being anyway. China's expansion has finally caught up with it in the form of wage inflation.
Bear in mind that power has much to do with efficiency; ours are the most developed financial markets and mechanisms.

No. Just the most powerfull military force. Look in the streets of every US city and you will see how powerfull your economy is. I measure the strenght of the economy by it's power to let everyone enjoy the benefits.. As long as there are people starving on your streets or dying because the can not afford decent healthcare your economy has failed. As long as there is unemployement the economy has failed. Even more important and in my opinion true for every economy in the world....as long as it's based on taking advantage of people that are less well of it has failed.
A lot of goods we produce are only bought because we keep cheaper produce from third world countries out. Keeping them poor is what is keeping us rich. That's a price nobody should be willing and having to pay.

USA economy depends on fuel, why?
First all trading goes thru sea ports, giant transport ship needs enormous quantity of fuel, without it you have no trade, your continental transport also depends on fuel since it is mostly by tiers( trucks and auto need fuel) and not by railroad ( electricity)as in europe.
And do you have good rail connection to your neighboars, canada and thru mexico to south, not as in europe.
Without fuel in a decade you can go economicaly back to 1850 or 1900.
What is that makes europe more secure?
Perhaps that it is not so intertwined in unity and USA, each country has plans for disasters, and a lot of neighboars are close , ther is a lot of rivers and rails for transport of goods independent of fuel.
China ,ok , but china does not have food supplies for its poplation, it has 1/4 of earth population but only 6 % of agricultural land for food production. America makes gros of food production but without transport it is noting.
Without fuel , you will need time to go back to air powered boats.
Perhaps with new designs ,but it will take a decade.
Simply USA use to much resources and are dependent of it.
When the stream stops you do not have a alternative.
I it will cost dearly
