In the news, the focus of derision is usually on those people who are illegally here in the U.S. They broke laws that are on the books but so did those individuals and corporations who hire them are not talked about. Why can't they be focused on as well and why can't their be sanctions for them too?

Illegal immigrants fuel our economy. While all of the politicians are taking stabs at them, they all really do recognize this fact that these immigrants are doing the jobs in America that make civil life easier for the rest of us. I know it's not the most ethical thing, but its just the way it is

It is very simple... They can't vote and they won't contribute to political campaigns. They also represent a very small percentage of the population. If you believe that there are 12 million illegal immigrants in this country, and the United States has about 295 million people, you are talking about 4% of the population.

It is much easier to scapegoat 4% of the population, especially if they can't vote (and don't believe the lies that say that illegals do vote - why risk getting caught and getting deported? and how & why would someone who may not speak the language or fully understand the political process in this country take the time off work to try and figure it out just to vote?).

There is no retribution in return for scapegaoting the illegal immigrants. It is a sad state. But if they go after businesses then guess what happens: Businesses create jobs, pay taxes and more importnantly, the people who own and run businesses are most often Republican. They contribute to campaigns and they vote! Go after business owners and you start having to go after the wolves instead of the sheep. Much easier to kill a few sheep dressed up as wolves than go after the wolves themselves.

And there lies the hypocrasy of our nation. People break laws everyday, yet we are all of the sudden concerned about people who want to work - who want to contribute - taking minimum wage jobs that are not being filled by Americans.

In Orange County, where I live - where there are at least 150,000 illegal immigrants and where the Minutemen who "defend" our borders were born, you cannot drive 65 mph on the freeway and expect to survive. People routinely drive 75 - 80 even 90mph. The law says that we must drive the speed limit, yet sometimes I go days without seeing a Highway Patrol vehicle. On average, 42,000 people DIE from car accidents each year in this country. Many of those can be attributed to speeding, running red lights and other violations of the law. Why is this not a crisis?

Why are we so bent out of shape about a small minority breaking the law when the majority breaks other-more life threatening laws-everyday. Ah... because it doesn't get you votes when you go after the wrongs of the majority! You only get votes - and this IS an election year - when you attack someone weaker than you so that you appear to be strong.

When gas prices are at their highest ever;

When more Americans have died in Iraq and Afghanistan than in the World Trade Center;

When North Korea has nuclear weapons and we have no plan to deal with it;

When New Orleans was left to drown;

When the Administration is on record saying that Global Warming is not a problem we need to be concerned about;

When No Child Left Behind has been left behind;

When seniors can't figure out their new drug benefit....

That is the moment when you ban gay marriage, flag burning and pick on the illegal immigrants - because at least we have our morals in this country... right?

Great question. If it were up to me, I would fine the companies big time and close their shop should they repeat the offense. Why aren't they targeted? My theory is political reasons. Huge companies donate a lot of money, and provide kickbacks. They have a lot of clout when it comes to politics. Why is it that Exxon and the other oil companies make $billions$ in profits every quarter, and the government still GIVES them $billions$ of our tax dollars to them every year so they can explore for better fuels and such? If my company wants to do research, to help stay alive, that is not the taxpayers problem. In my state, on a project that I am currently involved in, there are many illegal aliens from Mexico working there. Not only that, the newspaper from our capital city did a front page story on this companies use of illegal aliens. That was last year already, and to this day, no one, NO ONE from the INS has ever dropped in to visit or fine anyone.

There is more pressure being focused on the people that do hire them. There are also illegals using false credentials to be hired. The news tends to focus only on the illegal aliens, but the efforts are not. Another one of the things being talked about is stiffer penalties for employers. You need to pay attention to more than just the mainstream media. I think the media has actually earned the distrust of us all.

Funny how the picture is not complete. Come on people, this whole thing is nothing more than a diversion tactic to try to bring back votes to the Repubs and to put our focus away from what the real problems are. It will soon be mid term elections. So it is time for lies and deceptions from all of the parties and candidates.

because big business actually benefit from illegal immigrants. They bring down the salary for jobs. If you can hire someone to do a $19/hour job for only $5/hour ~ then people are forced to accept a lower wage.

Big businesses give George W money ~ if he focuses on them they will stop giving him money.

It is easy to hate the disadvantaged and blame them for wrongs they have not committed.

Explain why minute-men type think they are 'protecting' the country by targeting the Rio Grande for terrorists, when the 911 terrorists came in with passports and visas on a 747?

You are right, we should also go after the employers. If the employers quit hiring them they will all go home. It will take stiff penalties, including VERY large fines and time in jail for repeat offenders, but if you put that kind of pressure on employers they will verify doumentation for people they hire.
