What were they thinking? All the character of the original is gone. It looks like a Cougar. For a Ford, that's good. For a Jaguar... not so great. What do you think?

And it used to be such a beautiful car.
I understand they had to change some of the lines, including the pitch of the windshield to meet safety standards in the US (specifically has to do with accidents where the driver is not wearing a seatbelt - what a waste). I guess one thing leads to another, and you're left with a more mediocre car - even the XKR didn't survive.

It's XK, not XK8. XK8 was the previous, discontinued generation.
And haven't you heard Jaguar's latest mission statement? They're "moving away from the past." They think that paying homage to the old cars and learning from near-perfection is not the way to go.
The XK is a beautiful car, but it looks too much like the Aston Martin for my comfort. Though it's sleek, (and looks nothing like a Cougar!) and there are hints of the classic Jags in its lines, it completely goes against Jaguar's old sports car beliefs--make it affordable, make it fast. The XK is fast, but affordable it is not. What happened to Jaguar's beautiful, sexy sports cars like the XKSS and E-types?
I think Ford's going the wrong direction with this one, though I want to see an XK up close and I'll have the opportunity to in the next few days. Perhaps it will be everything it's hyped to be and the styling departure will be worth it.

I love it! Cougars were beautiful cars but lacked in the performance arena. I think Jag did a great job -- gorgeous and powerful. Personally, I see more Aston Martin than Cougar in the XK.
