I suggest you take a 'Learn to Skate' class and tell them what you want to learn to do...

When you are skating backwards or standing still you need to shift your weight utilizing the edges on your skates to give you the power to move in the desired direction. When you are ready to cross over, pick up one skate and cross over behind the other skate... For example, pick up the left skate and place it behind the right and then pick up the right and place it back to the right of the left skate completing the crossover. There is going to be some trial and error and you may fall down a few times but you will learn quickly... If you live near Denver, Colorado... I will meet you at the rink...

Laura Stamm does a great job explaining how to do a backwards crossover on skates. I've attached the link below. Best of luck on the ice!

when your going backwards to the right put your left sk8 behind you first and when your going to the left the left goes behing you first

to help practice stopping get 2 cones and plac em about 10-15 ft apart and practice stopping in both directions

try playing street hockey on roller blades with freinds u get the hang of it

in a wrist shot, when your about to shoot snap your wrist as the more you do this it will be more easy to aim

I would also suggest reading Laura Stamm (books or web), but the best way to learn is to take a clinic or lessons and PRACTICE.

just practise, i was thinking about taking classes but i advise against it. watch someone who can do it (very well) and copy what they're doing. get help from friends/ team mates or whatever, tell them what you wanna learn and ask them to help you. otherwise, just practise on your own. that's what i did and it went a lot better and quite quick too!! and off course it much cheaper then getting classes. god knows what they might ask for those!!!
