Remove hard-drive from old pc and slot it in to VAIO of there is room for it. Alternatively you can get an external hard-drive slot and place yr old hard-drive to it and connect to yr VAIO.
Good Luck!

Not too hard to do. Warning! Unplug power to computer first! Next, set the Win98 drive's jumper (tiny plastic square that slides over brass pins) to Slave or Cable Select (see diagram on drive label). Then mount the drive in the case, plug in the center connector on the same data ribbon (IDE) that leads to your existing XP drive (which should be on the end connector). Then plug in any available power cable. These plugs fit one-way only so don't force, but rather flip over. Boot up into XP, right-click My Computer, click Manage, click Disc Management. Right-click on the Win98 drive, click Format, and choose NTFS. This will erase the drive and make it more compatible with XP.

The old drive is IDE, make sure the Vaio is too. Set the jumper on the old drive to slave or cable select and try booting the machine. It should auto detect the drive. Once you get into windows follow dr luv's directions in computer management.

If you want to use it just for storage then you can install it as a secondary and reformat it. If you want it as a back up for your XP system then you will need to use a raid card and ghost it (also called cloning) it to you main drive. You have to use a program like Norton's own ghosting program. Can't remember if that is the name of it but call the local computer store, tell them what you want and they can get any parts and info you may need.

The best thing to do is wipe the old drive with something like
Killdisk it's available at download.com that returns it to as new,
all 0"s configuration and then just format it like new and any problems with old programs on the drive are gone.

No, you don't want to do that! Why? You will start an internal battle between W98 and XP. They will fight back and forth, and eventually annihilate each other as smoke pours out the back of your PC!
No, seriously, it is bad computer karma!

try purchasing a usb based external IDE connector case for your old hard disk. you can use that case to carry your hard disk around and plug it into the usb of your viao when you want to use it. i guess that would be the best solution. all software issues should be taken care of by windows xp itself.
