The reason why aussie and americans cannot embrace the world game of football is they are too busy trying to be unique with their disgraceful "football" leagues which make me embarrased to be an aussie... Theres a reason why football is played worldwide and why aussie rules and NFL are played in their own countries.. and i love the excuses like.. "not enough points scored" thats how narrow minded you idiots are! Especially typical american egos calling their competitions "world series".. AH YEAH RIGHT!! NEWSFLASH!! its played only in your country!!!!
Football will always be the world game. Its an epic game, where one goal means the world. Its emotional and theres a reason why at the world cup nations cry when their teams are out. PASSION! So to my fellow aussies and americans, GET OVER IT coz ur game aint going no where! As for skill levels, anyone can throw people on the floor and jump all over each other like bush pigs.. and all off u have the nerve to say football has no skill!!

I am sorry for including all americans and aussies.. As someone quoted.. Real passion is when nations stop all over to watch these games.. I am so over people here who loves their aussie rules calling us "*******" and "fags" coz we play football.. And in other forums we have people saying theres no skill in football compared to NFL!! I mean seriously, i am going to take that as a joke!! What people dont realise is football is one of the most skilled, hardest games to play and you can only realise this by actually going on the field!! I am sorry for all you aussie rules loving fans that i do not see the joy in a bunch of over-grown boys throwing each other to the ground.. Is that meant to be skill? Though I admit alot of payers exxgerate this! I dont care if USA and AUS love their own sports.. But stop berating football when u know nothing about the sport or havent played it.. Fact: Nearly 2 billion ppl will watch the world cup final on sunday.... I think that stat tells us everthing!

Americans just did not see a lot of soccer but it is changing. A lot of very young kids are now into soccer.

Calm down man. I am Italian and despite the constant Italian bashing by a few idiot Aussies here I must say that I love the Aussies overall and they do appreciate football. They are getting better at it apparently as well.
As far as the Americans go, I know there will be so many people that will say, football is new to our country. Which is not true,. they were there when the first world cup was played. In fact did better than most. It is their "we are better than you" attitude that gets them nowhere in this sport. They seem to think that football is a mans sport and baseball is apass time, and NBA is the best entertainment.
Football is a game that is played by players who are not tough enough to p;ay rugby they were pads. Their offensive and defensive linemans weigh over 150 kg. and they can not even move properly. Players are on the field 16 times a year for about 15 minutes per player. ANd even those 15 minutes is so spread out. The game is 60 minutes but it takes 3.5 hours, becaudse everything is about advertising. Well lets say a team has the ball for half the time which is 30 minutes. And there is also a lot of player substitutions, so lets say any given player is out there for 20 minutes. 20 minutes of football in a 3.5 hour span. Who cares if you run for 100 yards, if you are going to rest for the next 20 minutes, right?
A footballer (yes a footballer is the ones that play what you call soccer - hell we play with our foot, you play with you hands, find a new name) runs up and down all game long, with only a 15 minute break for 90 minutes if not longer.
Baseball. Please. The baseball icon Babe Ruth looks like he ate the Preident.
NBA: Again the game is supposed to be 48 minutes but lasts 3 hours. Imagine how much they compete. But if you notice America has been losing in all of these sports (except football because nobody else cares in the world) baseball, hocket, basketball they cant win anything. There is a huge decline in American sports because everything is about money and there is no heart left.
Dont start bashing me Americans I am just stating facts. I like the American people and I like America as a country. But sports although money will be involved should still aboit the sport itself.

Americans don't appreciate football because you actually run all over the field to kick the ball. They prefer their NFL where all players do is throw themselves on top of the ball and on top of the player who got the ball. Plus, a touchdown is worth more points than a goal, so they have the illusion that it's a huge victory -- or a crashing defeat. How they can like better such a game and call it football when you don't actually kick the ball with your feet, it still remains a mystery to me. But then again, I'm not American and have been living in the States only a few years...
Australian football seems to be getting better. Australia certainly achieved better results than the USA in this World Cup.

Americans are too into the other sports we have. We have tons of sports. I mean even the NHL is a niche sport here, so is the NBA. We just have so much going on. And we don't have the extreme nationalistic history the European nations have over sports. I mean when Italy beats France this weekend, two nations will just about come to a complete stop. Now that's true sports fans!

LOL i gree with u i saw that thing on espn also- the "not enough pts" ramble. another reason? because it is too physically challenging, not enough steroids, too simple to understand, and its not "american" enough. im a swimmer and i respect all sports but football (american), baseball, and eating. but kids are getting into proper football a lot, especially girls. not the same way, of couse but still...

well your right my friend on one count even as a child i wondered why they called it the world series when it was only American teams and 2 Canadian teams. but the "world series" refers to baseball my friend not American football. and really what does it matter to you so long as you enjoy what your watching?
