many teams who played better than the opposition have lost just because one of their player misses a shot on the goal, for example england played much better than potugal but they lost becausethey didnt do well in the penalties.

For the most part, penalty shoot-outs are based on chance which is a bad way to end a game and is not a good indicator of who is/was the better team.

The winning team should be based on the first goal scored in overtime (like they do in hockey). Perhaps they can shorten the overtime periods and leave a longer rest period in-between each overtime session to help avoid/minimize exhaustion.

(If anyone reading this is a senior level executive with FIFA with pertinent decision making authority, please take note and engage the necessary action to implement my idea. On behalf of the football viewing public, thank you for your kind consideration).

We English have had our share of loosing these - but teams cannot keep playing until someone scores - if equal after extra time, then this is the fairest way to settle the game - each team has an even chance, and it's also pretty exciting.

You said England played better? Not really. If they play better they will score before PK. But the England defender are best. They could defend for almost 60 minutes.

PK is fair and entertaining.

I do agree. Atleast back them up or make it harder on the kicker. The France game was a load of B*** S*** because we all know portugal had that game and it is sad that one guy now is p ractically responsible for that loss...I say either eliminate the penelty kick or Make it harder

sounds like someone's team didn't win...what do yu want to have happen-sudden death overtime? Hey, wait a minute, that sounds much better than stupid-not-like-the-real-game-shootouts! I think you convinced me. They should play until someone scores.

I think its unfair because penalties cant decide who the better team is

its unfair because some really good teams really suck at penalties. plus, after 120 mins of playing, pks are just kinda anticlimactic.

I think that they are unfair. I use to lose games because of them and it is the worst feeling in the world.

well i don't know if it's fair or not but happily, you had one ( france ) against portugal, and that's why we won...
so that's fair fot the team who win and vice versa.
