It is a personal choice, but why do they choose to do it now and not before.

In my opinion, people look more beautiful without them.

People should be happy with themselves just the way they are.

They wanted a more permanent way to advertise their stupidity.

I don't have any tattoos yet, but I do have a few piercings. I think for some people, it is a way of expressing themselves fully. You can always let your hair down or change your clothes, but something like this is a more profound statement of who you are-that cannot be changed easily. I think it's also a testament of pride, you can take a certain amount of pain or easily identify yourself with others who share similar interests as you do.
To me, piercing is not as permanent, as most can be taken out without scarring, but tattoos are much more difficult to remove. I would probably not get something that is irreversible unless I was 100% sure that I wanted it as part of my body for the rest of my life.
I don't see anything wrong with either one, but just like anything, they're better in moderation.
Best wishes.

It is a fad...and 90 percent of the people look horrible with them. Very few people actually pull off the look, and most are going to regret getting them in a couple of years. I think the worst tatoos are the ones on the lower backs of women. And I think the only part of the body the looks good pierced is the earlobe, or perhaps a small stud in the nose ( the rest look bad in my opinion)

It's NOT about making a statement. I love my tattoos and piercings. My tattoos tell a story about my life.. and my piercings are just "me". I don't do it because it's in "style" or whatever, I do it because they make me happy. ... Someone once said, "The difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care if you have tattoos or not." How true that those who have them tend to be less judgemental of others choices than those who don't!

people have been making statements with their clothes like forever... tattoo's i guess people are just getting them to express a symbol they think is important in their life.. and piercings... pretty much every girl (and more guys now) are getting their ears pierced... but to tell you the truth im not completely sure why people peirce other things like their eyebrows or lips or even the stuff below the belt... you know what i mean...

We miss being part of a tribe and doing piercings and tattoos returns us to that roots.
Making a statement with clothes isn't good enough anymore.

lol as the proud owner of a tattoo, three holes in each ear and nice big scar from a former belly button piercing i can tellu it was all due to my friends..i used to be innocent one cute little stud in each ear thena another then another..but i couldnt stop there one night out with friends someone was going to get a cartilage piercing and there we were at the tattoo/piercing place they dared me to pierce my nippl which i disagreed...i ended up with a very painful bellybutton piercing (No not when they did it afterwards) it was infected and swollen and i couldnt even wear pants that touched it or sit down i finally pulled it out and threw the damn jewellery at the wall...2nd adventure my friend was going to get a sweet little tat (now she has 27 mind u) and i am DEATHLY afraid of pain..theyt dared me and now i have penguins on my upper thigh...didnt really want them to begin with and now after egtting married and the prospect of future children i am kind of ashamed of it and im only 21! lol...moral of the story its done for peer pressure and to look cool..

Sure they can but some people would choose to tell you that it is their body and they can make a statement on it if they wish. You are picking a fight that you can't possibly win here.

They think it's edgy and original. They're wrong of course, but that's what they tell themselves .
