Ideology is a set of beliefs that form the basis for politics, culture, or other social systems.

In terms of film criticism, your personal belief system (ideology) will color your response to a film. Especially if you and the director/writer have differing/clashing points of view.

Since criticisms is a personal reflection of the behavior of another, this can lead to further misunderstandings and angst.

it is a notion or oppinion that the film is trying to portray not only as good, but it is common sense to bleeive it is good. Often they are in line with studio compliance and american ideologies that seem to be compatible with government or the American people since most films are either Hollywood produced or aiming for an american audience for profit, or a western audience heavily influenced by Hollywood media. Ideologies are often the driving force behind the protoganist's actions or the conclusion they discover.

A rather obvious example of an ideology in a film is "with power comes responsibility" form the Spider-Man franchise, though originally cited in comics the idea has been repackaged and re-told countless times not only in super hero films but also any with those in positions of power. Any time a police officer actively chooses not to sit idly by or a hero takes the difficult road it is this ideal re-fed to the audience. This ideal is heavy in America, it helps keep faith in police and peacekeeping forces, for ordinary people going to see these films it helps them beleive that if theyhad the power or positioon the hero was inthey would do the same, but since they are not, they do not have to worry aobut guilt for not doing such. It also goes against laziness and not contributing to society that America is opposed to.
