It's hot and humid in the summer, and freezing cold in the winter. It is flat and has very high winds. It gets alot of snow and blizzards. As for the cost of living cheap. There is nothing to see on the eastern side of the state, but the western side is quiet beautiful.

There isn't a huge amount of snow, mostly flying ice crystals. Temperatures range from 104* in the summer to -50* in the winter. The cost of living is low in the small towns and average in the "cities". But the wages are very low so unless you have certain types of jobs you will probably not find it cheap to live here. If you want night life, go some where else. If you like outdoor activities or anything related to ranching an rodeo this place will be great for you. People are very conservative here. Most of the state is flat and baren but the Black Hills are beautiful. The stars are clear and bright, the air is clean and it is incredibly quiet compared to alot of places.

South Dakota is around 80 and up in the summer but can sometimes (very rarely) get below 80. In the winter its cold and we get around 4-5 in. of snow.
South Dakota is a lovely state to live in because the people are so kind. I am from a small community in South Dakota and everybody knows each other. When you walk down the street everyone that you pass will say hello to you. You will be welcomed by all in any small town in South Dakota. If you are looking for a job in a small town, you might run in to some problems. My advise would be to look up a website for a business in a small town and call that business. If they do not have work for you, they will more than likely know of somebody who needs a good worker. Sioux Falls, South Dakota's largest city is nice as well. It has a lot to offer...good shopping, entertainment, beautiful parks, bike trails, tons of resturants, etc. It is as good as any other big city I have been in.
South Dakota features low crime, friendly people, low cost of living, and if you enjoy outdoor activites like hunting, fishing, boating, camping, skiing, hiking, biking etc. than there are lots of options year round. Whichever end of the State you move to.

Rode Amtrak thru South Dakota once. Stopped in Minot. Was really glad when train started going again. The only thing to see out the train's windows are the enclosed missle silos that seem to sprout in the really remote areas.
