The question is pretty self explanatory, and I mean pretty much anything, from the physical state, mental state, even an emotional state, or the ability to care about others.

Oh and sorry about the category, I really wasn't sure where this would go.

In the sense of "adulthood" as something that society confers on you, you are an adult when you reach legal adult age and have learned to give the impression of being an adult, which involves, basically, interacting with the world and, by behavior and assumption of responsibility, convincing people in general that you are an adult. Emulating adult behavior in this manner unquestionably helps one to mature. Sometimes we see young people projecting very adult-appearing attitudes and behavior. I call people who act like adults ADULTS, whether they are 14 or 41. But, in a greater sense, becoming an adult is a lifelong project in gaining wisdom: self-knowledge, and knowledge of the world and people. Becoming an adult, in this higher sense, means truly learning to properly balance discipline with responsibility, work with play, laughter with seriousness, enjoyment of life with the responsibilities of life; truly getting wise to oneself and the world, our role in it, and somehow being able to convey that wisdom to others, through example or words. A true adult is a person who, most of the time, manages to accomplish much that he sets out to do, meets her responsibilities, can lead or follow as is appropriate, and has, to a large extent, mastered the art of not getting on people's nerves any more than necessary, taking life seriously enough but not taking himself too seriously! At 65, I think I am on my way to growing up.

When you realize that you don't have all the answers, that no matter how much you learn and know, there will always be something left to learn.. Adulthood is a mental and emotional state, physical maturity is irrelevant and the ability to care about others just depends on each individual.

I think you just answered your own question, to some extent.

Besides turning 18, I think you become an adult when you start acting more mature. You don't care about all the little things you used to, like in high school. Considering I'm still in high school this is just my "educated guess" lol.

As you said yourself, your state of mind and your ability to care for others. When you start to focus on the future and settle down. You know very well what's right from what's wrong and have learned from your stupid mistakes.

It really depends on your definition as an adult, I've met 12 year olds that act more "adult" than 45 year olds I know. As for feeling like an adult, physical is usually 19-20 (correct me if i'm wrong) but mental is something you would have to go on for yourself in my opinion.

One person realizes they are an adult when they realize....RESPONSIBILITY. Being responsible is a part of maturity. There are alot of people that are considered adults to day and are not responsible. These people are still childish.

I guess the saying goes for guys anyone can make a baby but it takes a man to take care of the baby. Responsibility.

as far as mental state i think you know your an adult when you feel complete with yourself... for example you know who you are and are not scared to admit it to others in actions. As far as emotional state goes i think we will deal with confusion all of our lives when it comes to that.

When one day out of the blue your parents say- "Wow! you've really grown up" , and all you ever did was to start making your own decisions..

I think its when you start thinking of your responsibilities and "getting stuff done" before having fun. I made a huge transition when I was in my first apartment...
