Does our anthopocentric perspective blind us to the concept that perhaps we are not the most important species, but just one of many in the web of life on Earth? If humans have now become like a "cancer" in that web, perhaps our removal from it, would be the best thing overall for the planet?

Age of humans does not go to an end, but age of consumerism and profit oriented society is going to an end.
Why, because we can not use the resources as we are using it now.
Does it mean an end, no, but a change yes, will the change let you live as you are used to, probably no.It will encompass everything you see. It will not be overnight, but at some time you will turn around and future different from anything you expected will be there.
No anthropocentric view does not blind us, is there is some other view of intelligent species I would consider it and change my according to the differences. But I thing that life strive to sentience , intelligence, and logic. So at this moment perhaps we are best bet for survival of sentience on our planet.

Well, considering that we are destroying the planet, it might be best if humans were not here. However, as a selfish human being, I cannot fathom a planet without humans. Mind, even if we were not here, another species might just pop up to take our place. Also, we are part of the web of life; without humans, everything would be affected because of the loss of our niche.

I always said the planet would be so beautiful with no humans to ruin it.

I know that means I wouldn't be here to see it or enjoy the beauty, I guess it would be one of those bitter-sweet things.
