Perhaps three factors determine who people are 1) heredity 2) environment 3) choice. When people encountered people who were different than they were, they devalued them because they didn't respect the differences. If the first group were Protestants, they must have believed that Protestantism was best else they would have believed something else. So when they met Catholics they viewed them as inferior. The Catholic group would do the same thing - believe they were best. Therefore, groups of people believed they were superior to other groups of people.
Racism came about in the same manner. People within a culture were of the same color. People of a different color were of a different culture. Each culture saw the differing aspects of the other culture as inferior. So people identified a certain color with certain traits.
What they needed to realize is that people do the best they can with what they have and that different cultures value different things. One culture may place more emphasis on education while another culture may emphasize close family relations. There isn't necessarily a right or wrong in this, just differences.

Racism in the modern sense did not really exist in the ancient world. Most groups that we know about defined themselves as better than everyone else but not on racial characteristics. The Romans, for example, looked down on non-Romans but didn't really care if they were black or white, just that they weren't Roman. Modern racism as we know it really came about as a justification for imperial expansion and slavery (yes the Roman had slaves, but not based on race. There were Roman and Italian slaves as well as slaves from other areas). Rudyard Kipling's poem "White Man's Burden" goes a long way to explain how people who weren't evil or unkind could justify controlling the lives of others. Kipling and his contemporaries really believed that they were doing the non-Europeans of the world a favor by conquering and ruling their countries.

well they are like in the jungle. imagine that you had already came out of the jungle and noticed that you needed help from them in getting a deer from the mountains. they are not interested in the new food because what they eat is easier to get and requires less effort. you aren't interested in the low quality taste of whatever it is that they eat because you have tasted deer. have you ever tried to convince someone that there is something better? most people don't care. it is hard work. you are upset and noticed that you can scare them with threats to help you get that deer. they are just peaceful. well you decide that it is to your advantage to use 20 of them to get a deer. none of them want the deer. they don't want to be in the sunshine (heat). so you decide to take actions in your own hands. you become more and more aggressive of your personal lifestyle and as time goes on, you end up right here asking this question.

What is called racism today is nothing more than noticing differences between people. There is nothing wrong with noticing differences between oneself and someone else and basing judgements on those observations. It's human nature. Only in today's politically correct society is this socalled"racism" such an evil thing.

I don't think racism ever started as such, it was always present in nature.. In my opinion its influenced by the nature's rule- "Survival of the fittest".. If you observe different groups of animals, they have little or no tolerance towards an indivisual from outside their band.. now would you call that racism?? Its all a make-believe..

Did you see the film.."Quest for fire"..in it..one tribe made its way to steal fire from the other tribe down the way..its roots are somewhere in there. As long as some have a want..and others have the ability to provide for that want...the "wanters" will seek to undermine the other any way it can..to devalue the "provider" enoug to make it cheap to obtain.
race is a good way to seperate the providers from the wanters

the white dudes were going back to europe talking to the other white dudes that had not made the trip to africa or america and said, "man you should see those women, they wear animal skins and show their legs, baby got back and natural sun tans! It's not like our women who wear these long dresses from their chins to their collars" The white dudes were wanting to ditch the white women and the white women got scared. The white women got mad and started demanding equal rights; then they acted like victims so that the courts would take all the white man's money. And it forced white men to stay with them because it's "cheaper to keep her." So then white men had to figure out how to turn off their desires for dark skinned women and so they decided to act like they didn't like them...and then they were jealous of the dark skinned men and would rather see them suffer than give them a chance to be happy with the beautiful dark skinned women.
And so everytime dark skinned women (beyonce's, halle's, aaliyah's, janet's of the world) get attention for being beautiful, the white women start screaming for equal rights to get their men's attention.
this is factual...but I paraphrased because I have worked all night.

racism has been around since the dawn of man. I think it started as a way of power and control. to get what someone wanted.
