Not a cretin, but certain a rash and potentially lethal driver. Its a wonder he has not killed himself or someone else the way he drives.

Do you know what a cretin is? Cretinism is a condition of severely stunted physical and mental growth due to untreated congenital deficiency of thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism). The term cretin refers to a person so affected. As he is 1.68m tall and obviously bright, he cannot therefore be a cretin!
Someone from Crete is a Cretan!
For those who don't already know, Juan Pablo Montoya Roldán (born September 20, 1975) was born in Bogotá where he was taught the techniques of karting from an early age by his father Pablo, an architect and motorsport enthusiast. He has enjoyed great success, most famously in top open wheel racing series. The highlights of his career include an International F3000 title, a world title in the CART FedEx Championship Series, and race victories in the Indianapolis 500 and Monaco Grand Prix, the blue ribbon events of the Indy Racing League and Formula 1 respectively. So he does know about cars!!!
If you are talking about him joining NASCAR, then I must admit that I am surprised by him going there from F1. However, I am wondering how many others have been Indy 500, CART, and F1 champions? Perhaps he is doing it for the challenge - so he can add NASCAR champion to the list! Of course, he does a lot of charity work in South America and may feel the need to be based there so he can do more work as the UN Goodwill Ambassador.
I must admit that I will be sorry to see him leave F1 - it was nice to see a driver who would take the blame when it was his fault (we all know how good MSc is at doing that!) - but he would also blame the team when it was their fault. However, did you notice that when he won a race, it was 'we won', not 'I won'. This he learned at CART, where success was a team thing, but blame was always accepted where necessary.
I read on Wikipedia the following, which goes to explain some of the reasons:
Although he had the talent, the strict nature of the F1 world did not suit Montoya’s free-spirited persona. Several poor performances during his stint with McLaren and his regular criticism of the team irritated team boss, Ron Dennis, and further reduced his already fading reputation among the paddock. He was offered a possible drive with his former team, Williams F1, but it appears Montoya was reminded of their falling out during the 2003 season and declined this offer. With no chance of a top drive for 2007, Montoya has decided to end his career competing against the best in the world even if it meant running with a below-par team. Although he was known for making mistakes and his poor physical conditioning suggested a lack of drive necessary to winning World Championships, Montoya will be remembered for his fiery nature, exciting driving style, and daring overtaking manoevres.

technically i would think so or altleast he use to be so ignorant about technical stuffs because way back when he was still virtually an unknown figure just a test driver for the williams team, engineers there find it hard to connect with him. as a test driver his job was to be able to tell the behavior of the car while he was doing his thing on the circuit. somehow he lacks the technical know-how so the engineers had trouble extracting from his feedbacks or lack there of. williams thinks he's an hopeless case so they dropped him. with no other f1 team takers, he just went to america to race. i think he has learned a lot in his stint in america that he somehow manage to get back into the formula 1 world. but if u ask me though... i think he is still learning all this time.

He was a bit of a cretin at Indianapolis last weekend and at Montreal a week before that. He'll fit in quite nicely in NASCAR.
Sometimes I think he would be a better sommelier than a racecar driver.

"cretin" is in Romanian?
He does seem to be an idiot in some circumstances, especially when thinking about all the things he has hit without having to do that. For example a loose drain cover last year in China.
