I don't expect anything, but should a man act like a gentleman then that makes for a better date. It makes the woman feel special.

I agree, unfortunately it's no longer rude not to stand for a lady. I think you could probably get away with not standing at a McD's or a diner, but a more formal setting such as a nice restaurant or formal gathering should almost require it. The sad thing isn't that men don't do it anymore, but that the ladies don't expect or demand polite manners. Kudos to the women with sons who are not only teaching them to cook and do laundry but are also pointing out the social basics such as holding the door, opening the car door, standing for a lady, and putting the lid down.

P.S. If you try it and your girlfriend looks at you funny, just explain you were trying to be polite and if that doesn't work, just tell her you had a cramp.

At a formal gathering such as a wedding reception, military ball, or similar it is nice for the men to stand up, otherwise it seems silly.

want it-yes, it shows extremely well manners, but it is no longer "rude" not to stand before a lady

it be nice, but my boyfriend doesnt even do it in a booth. i just have to climb over him. : (
