We support a family of 5 on $32K a year. This would work great for *us* if we didn't have to pay $183/wk for health insurance and then have high co-pays.

I think people are looking to spend money before it hits the bank. Being comfortable doesn't mean going shopping everyday. It doesn't mean anything other than having basic needs met and a little left over for an emergency. People today do not understand the power and thrill that comes with actually SAVING for something *gasp*.

I think it is around 25-45K a year for a family of 5 depending on location (USA).

That kind of question can not easily be answered. It's too vague; some people are happy living on a run-down floating house in the mississippi river, catching their meals every day with no job and no anything. Other people become CEOs of giant corporations and still end up severely in debt because they spend it all before they have it. You can never really know until you have the income, and then once you do, you'll know if it's "enough" for you to do what you want comfortably. If you end up with extra, be generous to those not so fortunate!

Depends on where you live.

On Long Island to live comfortably, owning your own house and a car for each adult I would say $100k per year household income, just for starters.

I heard once that you need to bring in on one weekly paycheck the amount of your largest bill, which is usually your mortgage. That here is about $2300/month. That's $119,600 per year. A little ridiculous considering that most households are not making that much.

Uh my bad, it's per year, Hmm well I'd say $24,000 after taxes.
;-)

Well it's different everywhere you go, due to the cost of living...
Were I live I'd say I would be contently happy with $2,000 per month.
That would allow me to own my own house, feed my self healthy food and LOT of fruits c0z I love FRUITS (organic fruits are exspensive dude). I would have enough to pay all the bills, including insurance and stuff. I did the math on all this... unless stuff goes up in price again (c0z of gas) I swear I'd be happy with $2,000 per month. AND I'd have some left over if I budgeted right so I could help out with other stuff or enjoy stuff like the movies or going on road trips ;-)

Yup, so my goal is to make $2,000 per month, and if I can do that then I wouldn't need any help supporting my self ;-)
Oh and I'd have enough to save for the future if times got ruogh (c0z they might not have retirement plans when I get that old), ya know.
(right now my Mom has to co-sign for me to even rent a place c0z I really don't have that much of an income LOL)

I THINK a LIVING Wage for everyone would be $30,000 c0z in most areas that will get you by if you don't waste it, and it's ALOT better then tryin' to live off of $4,800 or even $10,000 which is SO not possible in most areas of the USA (in other countrys yeah it could be done, but in the USA that is bellow poverty level, and all the money keeps goin' to is BILLS and you never seem to improve your situation because you don't have enough to improve WITH)

P.S.
IF some rich dude would pay my Morgage/Rent and Electric Bill and Water Bill, and Phone Bill, and Internet Bill THEN I'd be just happy for that LOL, c0z that means all I gots to worry about is food and anything extra Muhahahahaa do you know how much that would HELP ANYONE?!??! I'd have a field day!!! I'd save up money to do cool stuff, like get solar panels for my naborhood y0 forReal!!!
;-)
(do you know any rich dudes who will through away their money to people LOL?!?!?! If so point me to them LOL!!!)

Depends on what their needs are. If you're the sort of person that always needs the latest car in your driveway then probably a lot more than the person who's happy to just go to the movies once or twice a month.

It depends on contentment. If it takes alot to be content, then match an income to that. What does it take for you to be comfortable? Are you content with a simple life or a life full of material things? Spiritually speaking, material things are temporal, meaning they won't last. So what do you base your comfortability on? God will always meet your needs, things won't.

That all depends upon what you consider a comfortable living. Do you like to have all the latest toys and gadgets or can you live with what you have? Do you need to keep up with the proverbial Jones? You have to decide what is comfortable to you.

As a single guy in this economy, I have to say no less than 75k. A mortgage, car payment, insurance , bills , gardener, more bills etc etc. Plus you want to be able to put money away! You can obviously do it for less, but the housing market will not allow much less.

Depends where you live. In Albuquerque, you can be quite comfortable with 50 thousand a year. In LA or NY... it can take three times that amount.

At least $100,000 Then that might not do it in a big city. That is why it takes two incomes to live a decent life and sometimes thats not enough.
