In other words - are you the family in the neighborhood with 'everything', do the neighbors envy you or did you max out your cards trying to keep up?

BTW, bear in mind this is the web - you are anonymous!

I'm surrounded by the Jonses, but am not one. I am afraid to get into the credit card debt problem. The economy is too shaky to try to overspend these days. I live at my means, the "poorest-looking" girl in a neighborhood surrounded by homes of the most prominent people in the state....pro athletes, political figures, doctors and lawyers. I envy sometimes, but then I read about the forclosures and job transfers and see the grass isn't always greener. I do this because I want my son to have all the opportunities their kids have. Great schools and influential personal connections that will take him far in life, farther than I could go at this point.

Plus, there is something rewarding for me when I meet my son's friends and they are impressed that MOM is at the school instead of a nanny, and that Mom has the time to play when the kids all get together. I may not have it all, but I am proud of what I have. When I am older I will have made my money through my hard work, investments and patience. Then I'll play and have my toys and big house for the grandkids.

Well there are Jones' in the family history but I am not trying to keep up. That's a bunch of clout. I have what I have because I am blessed. Now I don't have everything nor do I put up a front. I'm just living to be the best me. Besides I'm known as the CHEAP ONE!

I am enamored with Love and Compassion and becoming a better person on the inside. 'Stuff' does nothing for me. I see people who are obsessed with 'keeping up with the Jones' as spiritually impoverished, and there is nothing sadder than that!

No credit card debt here, although I have everything I could ever need or want.

Aloha ~

I'm the other people. Not the Jones's, not the people trying to keep up, but the poor trash that doesn't give a flying ****.

Good question!
I live my life on my own terms. Personally, I don't give a hoot what my neighbors own or do, so long as they keep their houses in good repair, their yards clean, their grass cut short and their children under control.
Living one's life to the fullest is paramount; why waste it in foolish pride?

Yea, right. I don't want anything the Jones' have, so I'll remain a "jane doe"

Actually, I make sure they know that I know that all of the things they have and do are because they are up to their eyeballs in debt and as Christians they should know how God views usury.

They really dislike me for pointing it out, but oh well. :o)
