He had played for 99 match with Italy national team. He will reach the 100th on tomorrow's final. 1 match means 1 cap. Considering a national team doesn't play too many games in a year, means Cannavaro has been years in Italy National Team. He's that good :) Believe me.

He has earned himself 99 caps because he has played in 99 international games for his country Italy. He will earn another cap if he plays in the upcoming WC final against france, thus he will have 100 caps to his name..(& I'm sure that he will play!).
