I knew a person who had to stay in barracks during world war two cause nazis had taken their home. she told me that every morning, they'd look for bits of moss in the forests to clean themselves.

Middle east still have the left hand is dirty tradition, much of poor areas in third world use a wash cloth, personal wash cloth no other uses or users.squtting to crap instead of sitting and high fiber diet makes it less of a problem

They say that in the medieval time, they use something like a stick with a sponge and when they used it they returned it to a cube with salt. The next person that came, only used it and put it without cleaning, in the cube.
