A common problem. If you right click on 'My Computer' then properties it will bring up a box. Now at the top, click on the 'Hardware' tab then click on 'Device Manager'. A list of currently installed hardware will show up. Scroll down to where it says 'Universal serial bus controllers' and click the little +. RIght click on all the ones that say USB Root Hub and click on uninstall. After thats done, restart your pc and it will detect all the usb stuff and reinstall the drivers for them. Now try plugging in your usb stuff and they should be detected. Remember to always use 'safely remove hardware' on the taskbar when you want to unplug usb stuff. By the way you are VERY hot.

Your motherboard has 6 usb ports which 4 ports are on the back and 2 are frontmounted, on some pc these 2 arn't used becouse they have no mountings for it if you want to use them then I would suggest buying a case that has these frontmounted USB ports (most new PC's do) :)

there are normally at least 6 usb sockets as standard now on most p.c,s and some top spec p.c,s have 14
as for pci-express you can have 1 or 2 if you have sli(scalable link interface)or crossfire
nvidia use the sli name and ati use the crossfire name, however nvidia are making quad cards which run 4 graphic cards(pci-e) on a mobo, but these are very expensive
pci bus ports are only used for modems and sound cards these days allthough you can still buy some very good pci-bus video cards such as the radeon 9250 and 9550
most mobos have around 3 pci slots but there are a few with 5

actually I have 14; 4 on the motherboard 2 that attache to the rear thru a cable to the motherboard, 2 on the front that attach via cable to the motherboard, and a PCI USB card that has 6 USB, but there are 2 only accessible from inside the case dont know what they are for so only 12 are useable

Your PC has 4 USB ports, my desktop has 8 and my laptop has 6. It's just the design of the PC when the manufacturer made it. You can have a maximum of 127 USB devices connected to your PC....it's just manufacturers don't put that many USB ports on a PC for obvious (space) reasons however, you can add USB ports by purchasing USB hubs and "daisy chain" them onto your PC.

you can add 4 usb ports to the front of the case, mounts right in the extra floppy drive port, you can also get a pci card with 6 usb ports on it and they make external usb hubs, kingston makes one that has 7 ports for $39.99 at circuit city

It all depends on your motherboard. You can have 8 (4 front, 4 back) but with hubs you can always expand that to 144 per port, so that should be plenty. If you want more PCI ports, I suggest looking at ATX motherboards from somewhere like http://www.newegg.com and stay away from micro as they only usually have 2 to 3 at most due to their size.

Different computer vary - 4's a nice number really. Plus it means you have to BUY extra ports - more money
