JAWARA(Dawda Kairaba) born16-5-24 was the first president of Gambia and was in chair from 1970 to 1994. Prior to that he was a minister from 62 to 70 but when it became a democracy he was elected the first presidentr. Gambia had to depend on the neighbouring Senegal fof survival

There was another Jawara (Duke M). He was convicted for possession of the drug TAC. He had appealeld against his conviction which came up for hearing on 27th March 2003
