Today, laptops use CardBus slots - which are essentially new PCMCIA slots. These slots handle 132 MB/sec. USB2 does less than half that at 60 MB/sec. (Note: USB2 does 480 Mb/sec, but 60 MB/sec - b=bits, B=bytes)

USB 2.0 has a max transfer speed of 480Mbps (MegaBITS per second)

PS the Transfer rate is mesured in bits per second not bytes
bytes are a measurement of storage
