I'm building an elevated fort/treehouse, size 10x12 feet, 8' above ground, do you know how deep my footings should be?

Jamie is right on target! It is important to get the footing below the frost line to prevent heaving. Unless you live in upper Michigan or similar, 3 feet deep should do. You can call a local engineering firm or the County engineering or Permit office to get the building code depth requirement.

In the book Treehouse Chronicles - One Man's Dream of Life Aloft, by S. Peter Lewis, T.B.R. Walsh.. he states that he used concrete footings. Have you read his book?

Find out what your frost line is, for me I would drop a 10" sono-tube 3 feet into the ground.

The frost line is 42 inches so you want to keep them below that to prevent the concrete from pushing up.
